With several new clients, 2011 has been a good year for Omega’s Omnicom and Omnisafe systems. Now, Omnisafe takes its first steps into the shipping industry.

  • Software company Omniware was acquired by Omega in 2010
  • Omnicom and Omnisafe then became a part of Omega’s product portfolio
  • Omnicom is a contract management system with over 10 000 users worldwide; clients include the State of Ohio and UKAEA (The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority)
  • Omnisafe is a management tool for health, environment and safety, focusing on risk assessment, monitoring, incident reporting, training, expertise and analysis

This year, Omnisafe has entered the shipping industry with sales of the Health and Safety software solution to several large international operators of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) ships.

“For some years now the UK office has been focused on the sales of Omnicom and Omnisafe, and has managed to establish a blue-chip client base,” says Omega’s UK Sales Account Manager, Tim Hallam.

Three-year agreement

Hallam recently secured the Omnicom sale to another UK utility company that distributes electricity to more than eight million homes in South East England. The contract includes support and maintenance for a three-year period and is one of Omega’s largest sales in the UK this year, according to Omega Project Systems Manager, Arnt Mundal.

“The latest large license sales have been made in the UK. The number of user licenses sold has not been high, but the sale to UKPN is a significantly large license,” Mundal points out.

The new license follows another Omnicom enterprise deal this year, with the Department of Environment and Rural Affairs (Defra), which includes up to 50 separate government agencies.

Towards LNG shipping

Omega is now preparing to secure its footing in the shipping industry, particularly within LNG shipping. Omnisafe is utilized in three shipping companies, managing approximately 80 ships worldwide; Shell Shipping, Nigeria LNG and Qatar Gas Transport Company.

“LNG is important for the UK; almost 25 per cent of the UK’s LNG needs are imported. Demand has increased and so has the need for HSE software solutions like Omnisafe,” Hallam explains.

Omega’s next step towards further expansion in shipping is an upcoming Omnisafe campaign in LNG Shipping magazine early next year.

“There is a lot of potential for Omnisafe in the shipping market. Now we will put all our efforts into optimizing our product and hope this campaign will provide results,” Mundal says.

Omnisafe is already implemented in several government departments in the UK, including the Ministry of Defence and the Environment Agency.

“In 2012 we will focus on creating opportunities for Omnisafe with the LNG companies, which may also include land-based companies. We will also work with Defra to widen the usage of Omnicom within other UK government departments,” Hallam says.
