Lars Øksenvåg, Ingunn Tørresdal and Ørjan Nilsen are third-year Quality and HSE Engineering students at Stord/Haugesund University College. The trio has chosen Quality and Safety Management in Omega as a case for their term paper.

Preparing Omega for certification

The student assignment is based on preparing companies for ISO 9001 (International Organization for Standardization) certification. The students are looking into quality standards in Omega and assessing if Omega meets the ISO requirements. The certification`s requirements apply to a variety of factors including internal routines, company goals regarding ongoing improvement, and measures to improve client satisfaction.

“We will go through all of Omega`s routines and guidelines from client follow-up to management commitment. So far things look good,” say the students who got to know Omega through friends.

Important job for Omega

By 1 December results from the students' research will be ready.

“ Over the next few weeks we hope to have finished the document control of Omega, and we will be able to determine whether Omega meets the demands for ISO certification”, Nilsen says.

Omega's QA Manager, Karina Stava, says the students have taken on a very important assignment for Omega. “They do an amazing job for us. Omega has done a review of its own quality standards, but it is important to have someone external looking into this as well,” Stava explains.

“Now we just hope they find something missing, and thereby help us to get even better," says Stava.
