Omega opened its latest office in Brisbane, Australia, on 3 September and is well-positioned to assist energy and mineral operators on the East Coast to meet their project systems and staffing needs.

Omega Brisbane

Omega's (l-r) Thomas Sundsøy, Peter Butt, General Manager - Shane Butt, and Andrew Lam, recently opened Omega's new office in the Brisbane CBD.

Already established in Perth, our decision to establish an office in Brisbane is a nod to the potential of the Australian market. This is the first time Omega has established an office in more than one location in a country outside of our home base of Norway.

“Omega’s success in the competitive Norwegian market is of interest to clients and consultants here in Australia, but what local operators really want is the local service to match our global reputation. People and systems who can really deliver,” says Omega Australia’s General Manager, Shane Butt.

Closer to clients

Butt suggests that Omega Brisbane will better position us to serve our existing consultants and clients in the region, whilst also providing a base for more active local recruitment and training.

Omega’s presence on the East Coast will be spearheaded by Manager of Omega’s Pims Project Systems, Thomas Sundsøy, who sees great potential for Omega’s project systems and personnel in Queensland.

“Queensland is an increasingly important region in the energy and mineral sectors, and we are ready to support that growth,” says Sundsøy.

“Omega is already providing system solutions to clients such as Rio Tinto, Hatch, Oil Search, Roc Oil and WorleyParsons in the region and we are now also ready to assist clients with their staffing needs.”

Opportunities for local and international consultants

Labour forecasts from the Australia’s Bureau of Statistics suggest Australia will need to double its workforce in the areas of engineering, construction and operations in order to meet the demands of approved projects in the energy and minerals industries by 2012, 2013 and 2015 respectively. The value of advanced projects in Queensland alone is in excess of AUD 68 billion.

In April this year, we launched our project staffing services, Omega Jobs, in Australia with the employment of recruitment specialist, Simon Calvert

“Omega has over 750 project consultants on assignment with some of the biggest companies in energy around the world and a database with thousands of skilled candidates looking for assignments,” explains Calvert.

“Here in Brisbane, we will concentrate on building a strong local, consultant network, whilst also providing an avenue through which our international consultants can access interesting Australian job opportunities.”

Open door policy

The Omega office is located on Adelaide Street in Brisbane’s central business district. Brisbane-based Sundsøy hopes the office will quickly become a meeting point for Omega’s local consultant network.

“Omega has built its reputation on personal service, and that is something we will continue in Queensland. Our door is always open and we look forward to welcoming new, local staff to the team,” says Sundsøy.

Local clients, Omega’s Brisbane-based personnel and visiting Omega Managers will gather at the new office 28 September to celebrate the official opening of Omega Brisbane.

Brisbane is our thirteenth office; Omega is also represented in Perth, Houston, Singapore, England, Lithuania, as well as having six offices across Norway.
