    Omega’s own technology framework is now introduced in a new version; Appframe R4 will provide faster upgrades and more possibilities for all Pims users.

    AppFrame R4

    • In 2007 work started on a new technology platform for Omega's Pims solutions: AppFrame R3
    • In 2011 work upgrading Appframe R3 began, and one year later, the new Appframe R4 is ready to be launched
    • Key improvements from Appframe R3 to Appframe R4 include quicker upgrades, improved usability and strengthened security
    • Appframe R4 will be launched for clients early in 2012 and includes:
      - SQL database with security layers and business logic
      - Windows client with standard components for reuse
      - Web CMS for information pages
      - Web application platform
      - TeamDocuments web-based collaborative tool

    Omega is currently rolling out a new version of Appframe, Omega’s own internally-developed technology platform for all Pims systems. The new Appframe R4 offers easier ways to make upgrades and provides the systems with many new possibilities.

    Faster

    Omega’s entire technology department is currently putting the finishing touches to the new Appframe R4 technology before it goes live for clients. Omega's Technology Manager, Peter Øren, believes R4 offers significant advantages when compared to the previous versions of Appframe.

    “Pims users will notice that it is easier to make upgrades, and that we have more opportunities to create new solutions. The platform is significantly improved, and is faster, more user friendly, and more secure regarding access control, “ Øren says.

    Complete package

    Appframe R4 is a continuation of Appframe R3, one of Omega’s most extensive projects started in 2007. R4 offers a number of significant improvements on R3, and users of the new TeamDocuments R4 (launched in August), have already experienced some aspects of the new Appframe's potential.

    With the completion of the upgraded R4 version, Omega presents a framework made for longevity in its current form, and one that is ready to meet rapid development on the systems side, says Øren.

    “With AppFrame R4 we have a more complete package to offer.”

    Simplified installation process

    Parallel to the launch of Appframe R4 for clients, Omega will utilize a new, simplified method for upgrading system solutions, says Sigmund Lunde, Omega founder and a central participant in the technology team behind Appframe R4.

    “The technique we use installing the new platform for clients is based on a so called “side-by-side” installation. This means that the existing Appframe R3 version can still function at the same time as we install the new R4. This is a huge step forward compared to previous solutions where the upgrade could be both complicated and time consuming,” Lunde points out.
