In relatively short time, German oil and gas company Wintershall has become one of the most expansive operators on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Now, some of Wintershall’s largest projects in Norway will be supported by Pims Project Management System.

Wintershall

  • The largest producer of oil and gas in Germany
  • Took over as operator of the Brage field from Statoil in October 2013
  • Target is to produce 50 000 barrels per day in 2015
  • Currently employs 500 people in Norway
  • Entered into a systems agreement with Omega for several Pims products
  • in September 2013
  • One of the largest license holders in the Norwegian and British sectors

Several of Omega’s systems are being implemented in Wintershall Norway as part of a Pims frame agreement that includes Cost, Risk Management, Experience and Benchmarking and PMCS (Project Management Control System).

“Wintershall is one of the most successful newcomers on the Norwegian shelf and, since their arrival in Norway seven years ago, have made important oil discoveries and become a significant operator. This is the first time Wintershall has chosen Pims and it is obviously a great achievement to have such an ambitious company make use of it in so many different areas,” says Trygve Haaland, department manager for project system services in Omega.

“So far, we have implemented Pims Risk for the Brage field and we are planning to have all Pims systems ready for use on the Maria project by the end of January. I think we have some exciting years ahead of us with Wintershall, as they continue their rapid expansion.”

2013 was a milestone year in the Wintershall’s development in Norway, as they took over as operator of the Brage field in the North Sea. Simultaneously, they took over larger shares on the Vega and Gjøa fields. Their production in Norway has increased from 3 000 barrels to almost 40 000 barrels per day. The goal is 50 000 barrels per day in 2015.

During the past years the company has been involved in several large discoveries both on the Norwegian and British sectors, including Maria, Edvard Grieg, Cladhan, Catcher and more recently on the Skarfjell fields where Wintershall is also the operator.

With close to 50 licenses on Norwegian and British sectors, Wintershall has become one of the largest license holders in the region and is an operator on approximately half of them.
