Earlier this month, news surfaced regarding Accpron Subsea Management (ASM) going into the Omega firm to establish Omega Subsea AS. The procurement was settled after Omega became the majority shareholder.

With continuous new deep sea discoveries, oil and gas fields have to be built with subsea technology solutions. With this in mind, the consultant and engineering company in Ølen hopes to play an even larger role in the market which is currently experiencing growth.

-From ASM we will first and foremost receive good management; a team consisting of professionals that can aid the client all the way from tendering to project completion, explains CEO in Omega, Petter Aalvik to Sysla.no.

Omega is mainly associated with their creation of the software PIMS, Project Information Management System, which aids oil and gas companies in controlling and manageing their projects. From 1991, Omega has developed into a firm with over 1000 employees.

The company has offices in USA, Canada, Britain, Lithuania, Singapore, and Australia.

-In Houston we are now over 60 employees, around 50 in Singapore, and 15 in Brisbane, says Aalvik.

Started with two brothers

The majority of employees are located at the main office in Ølen, where approximately 150 people work.

-That is where we have our support functions, like the administration, service center, and technology department, explains Aalvik.

The history of Omega started in the latter part of the 80s. The two farmer sons, Sigmund and Tor Erling Lunde, each started with computer and consultancy services respectively; in 1991 they merged and established Omega.

In 2013, the company had a turnover of approx. NOK 1.6 billion. The sum before taxes was 86.6 million.

Stronger together

ASM has about 30 employees and their main office is in Bergen, with other offices located in Stavanger.

-With ASM’s focused skill base, Omega will gain a better foothold in a subsea market that is experiencing growth. Together, Omega Subsea and Omega will be a solid candidate to qualify for larger frame agreements, says Aalvik.

A central discipline

Throughout the year, the firm has expanded with Omega IT Consultants and Omega IT-Ledelse (Management), and now with Omega Subsea.

ASM was established in 2012 and offers consultancy services, engineering services and project management within the subsea sector. Omega Subsea CEO, Trond Berge, is expecting a significant growth in demand for subsea services in the years to come.

-With the new company we have established our place in a central discipline, which clients will increasingly need in the future, says Berge.
