HSE: Safety tips in the Christmas traffic

Christmas Eve is approaching and with it comes holiday excursions and festivities at home. Enjoy Christmas time, but also remember that it is a peak season for accidents, both at home and on the roads. Check out the following HSE tips before you embark on your Christmas adventures.

Tips in Christmas traffic

  • Drive appropriately for the circumstances and road conditions
  • Remember high speed do not save much time on the road
  • Use seat belts
  • Check weather and traffic reports before you set out on your trip
  • Make sure your car is in good condition and equipped for the weather conditions
  • Remember to refuel and have washer fluid in your car before you set out on a long trip
  • Bring a flashlight, reflective vest, extra clothing, and footwear in the car
  • Remember to pack the car safely - loose objects can be dangerous if you need to stop suddenly
  • Do not drive when you are tired - stop and take a 15-minute break

Fire safety at home or at your holiday house/cabin

  • Ensure that the fire detectors are working
  • Make sure you blow out all candles at night or if you leave the house
  • Make sure candles do not stand close to anything flammable
  • Turn off all Christmas lights at night
  • Keep a fire extinguisher in the house and ensure it is working properly

Remember to think safety first, and merry and safe Christmas!
