Gassnova goes for Pims Risk
In January, Omega signed an agreement with Gassnova concerning the delivery of the risk control system Pims Risk. The agreement entails the purchase of the software as well as license for an unlimited number of users.

Gassnova’s roles
In a governmental undertaking, Gassnova will contribute to finding solutions where technology used for capturing and storing CO2 is utilized and becomes an effective measure towards the climate.
Research
Through the research program CLIMIT, Gassnova provides economic support for the development, demonstration and pilot projects of CO2 capturing technologies. The Research Council of Norway is responsible for the research conducted in the program. Gassnova is in charge of the CLIMIT secretariat. The purpose of CLIMIT is to ensure that this essential environmental technology becomes available on an international basis sooner than what would have been possible without the contributions of Gassnova.
TCM
Gassnova administers the government’s interests in the CO2 Technology Centre Mongstad (Teknologisenter Mongstad). The technology centre at Mongstad is established with the vision of creating an arena for the long-term, focused development, testing and qualification of technology for CO2 capturing. Gassnova will lay the foundations for sharing and spreading the knowledge and experiences to reduce the costs and risk of CO2 capturing technology.
Full-scale
Gassnova has previous experience with planning full-scale CO2 handling systems from the now completed projects at Kårstø and Mongstad. Gassnova has an important role to play in ensuring that the knowledge and experiences from the projects are communicated so that others can benefit from it.
Advisor
Gassnova will further provide the authorities with advise in questions regarding the capture and storage of CO2. The government is working on establishing a new strategy for handling CO2; Gassnova will play an important role as advisor.
Robust system
- The decision to go with Omega’s Pims Risk system was based on their fulfilment of the technical requirements that Gassnova has with regards to risk control systems. Omega has shown a good understanding of the assignment and has the flexibility that Gassnova needs, says HSE manager Jens Solli from Gassnova, and adds that Omega’s system looks like a robust and highly configurable system that will be able to tackle Gassnova’s specific needs.
The agreement will see Pims Risk installed with Gassnova in Prosgrunn. Arild Røksund and Sigurd Bell will go to Porsgrunn to train one administrator and six managers within risk management in operating the risk control system. Omega will supply Gassnova with support and maintenance of the system for the duration of the agreement.
- The underlying reason for acquiring a commercially available risk control system is that the system we previously utilized did not fully meet the requirements that Gassnova has in terms of description, analysis, follow up and reporting risks to the business, reads the letter of request.
The reports will be used internally in the company and will be shared with the governing board and the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.
Pims Risk Advisory Board
- By choosing to go with Pims Risk from Omega, which is also installed with various other businesses and clients, Gassnova has, together with other big actors on the Norwegian base, secured access to Pims Risk Advisory Board, says Arild Røksund.
The Pims Risk Advisory Board is a forum where participants from all the companies that utilize the tool gather to share their experiences and provide input on further development of the risk control tool.
Omega has extensive experience with the delivery of applications and systems for project completion. Big actors in the oil and gas industry, delivery companies and smaller businesses have utilized the systems for over 800 projects across the world.
