Donating $15 500 to hurricane victims in Houston

Hurricane Harvey left massive destructions in the US, and among the affected places are Houston where Omega has a branch office. Omega is now donating $15 500 to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund after running a fundraiser for employees for the past two weeks.

"I am proud of Omega and all employees who have contributed in this campaign. I addition to our campaign there are many who have contributed via other channels or have directly helped with cleanup for friends and family, or through a charitable organization. It is important to help when we can, and I thank Omega and all our employees for their contributions," says President at Omega's Houston office, Øyvind Vik.

Øyvind Vik, President at Omega's Houston office, is thankful for all the contributions from Omega employees during the fundraising campaign for Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

Omega employees from all branch offices have contributed through the fundraising campaign. Omega donated a start contribution of $10 000 and matched all contributions from employees up to another $10 000. After the fundraising campaign had run for two weeks (Sept 22 - Oct 6), the total donation sum amounted to $15 500. The donation will now be transferred to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund in Houston.

What is the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund?

The Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund is a relief fund for those affected by the Hurricane Harvey. The Relief Fund was started by the mayor in Houston, Sylvester Turner and County Judge Ed Emmett, after they received an overwhelming number of inquiries from citizens and companies who wanted to help after the storm. The Relief Fund will contribute to finance help services and organizations in the area. Read more about the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund here.

Donating resources for the annual Christmas party

The branch office in Houston has decided to cancel this year's Christmas party and will instead donate the resources as a part of the donation of $10 000 from Omega. Øyvind Vik explains that it would feel wrong to use time and resources on this year's Christmas party when so many out there still need help.

Closed office during the storm

Omega's branch office in Houston was closed during the Harvey storm that hit the states Texas and Louisiana hardest. The office opened their doors again on September 5. None of Omega's employees at the Houston office are hurt, but six employees have experienced flood damages in their houses.

"We have been present in Houston since 2002, and Houston stands very close to our hearts. I am grateful for Omega's contribution and would like to thank everyone who contributed in the fundraising campaign," says Vik.
