Millions of people are suffering in conflicts and crises that are seldom reflected in media or in government aid assistance projects. Doctors Without Borders aims to awaken public awareness to the forgotten crises of the world. Doctors Without Borders is Omega's community project for 2013.

In addition to health aid and services, Doctors Without Borders' main project is to turn the public eye towards unknown crises, catastrophes and conflicts around the world, because fewer people die when more people know. Each year, MSF publishes a list of forgotten crises, where the need for public awareness is high and aid is lacking.

"We have looked at the reasons why these crises are overlooked and have had helpful discussions from journalists and news editors in defining this. These crises need to receive the attention they deserve, but this is not only a media issue. This year we want a discussion about the political consequences of crises being forgotten," says doctor Morten Rostrup from the Norwegian branch of Doctors Without Borders.

Omega's Community Project

Since 2003 Omega has given its annual  Christmas gift to a community project. At Christmas 2012, Doctors Without Borders received Omega's NOK 500 000 gift to support their work all over the world.

“Doctors without Borders is a well-known organization and one that people really believe in – as do we. In choosing to give our Christmas gift to Doctors Without Borders, we know we will reach the people that most need our help, and that is what our team wants. Our employees tell us they want to support community organizations that really achieve results – and we truly believe Doctors Without Borders does that,” says Service Center Manager in Omega, Aslaug Østrem Nesheim.
