Omega to deliver solutions to Maersk Oil’s Culzean project

Omega has entered into agreements with Maersk Oil North Sea UK Ltd for the delivery of specialists and systems for hookup and commissioning on the platforms for the Culzean project. Omega will contribute expertise within preparation, planning and commissioning of the hookup phase.

Three platforms and one FSO (Floating Storage and Offloading unit) are commissioned for the gas field which lies on the UK Continental Shelf. Key personnel from Omega are stationed in Singapore, where the platforms are under construction, and will together with resources from Omega’s branch office in Singapore, work in a team with Maersk Oil to prepare and plan the job offshore. 

Maersk Oil uses Omega’s Pims systems for completion on a range of projects within technical, administrative, and project control. Now the systems are to be utilized on the Culzean project.

“The enterprise contract with Maersk Oil lifts Omega into a new role, where we take more responsibility for the work processes that are integrated in our system. The completion system is delivered with key personnel having expertise knowledge within offshore hookup and commissioning. Our system and personnel is now being utilized by several leading companies on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, and has proven to be a leading tool in this area. This gives us the possibility to use our experiences from previous projects to ensure a secure and efficient completion phase,” explains Department Manager in Omega, Thomas Sundsøy.

The gas field, Culzean, has an estimated value of up to 250-300 million oil barrels. The field was discovered in 2008 and is operated by Maersk Oil. Planned production start is in 2019, where the production is estimated to continue for 13 years. Per day approximately 60 000 – 90 000 barrels will be produced from the field.

Omega is a global supplier of personnel and systems to projects of all sizes.
