“I am so happy with Liv, Omega, and the workplaces I’ve been at. I must say, it’s the best thing that could have happened to me!”

Ronny Svenøy enjoys his work at Omega 365. He initially joined the company for a short project in 2008, but he, the clients, Department Manager Liv Hetland, and Omega 365 were all very pleased when he chose to stay. What was meant to be a few months has now turned into 16 years, making it a win-win situation.

“It is a very exciting job with many different systems in place. I look forward to going to work every single day,” says Svenøy.

Since starting at Omega 365, Svenøy has worked on exciting energy projects, gaining extensive experience as a site manager. In that role, he focused on training, process control of gas plants, demineralized water systems, high-voltage systems, monitoring, and power delivery.

Before joining Omega 365, Svenøy explored various fields. He spent a few years in education, starting with carpentry, followed by the military, and working on a fishing boat. He then took preparatory courses for engineering college and studied electric power at technical school and electrical automation at Tønsberg Maritime College.

Early in his career, Svenøy worked onshore before transitioning to offshore projects. Since 1995, he has been involved in numerous roles, including electrician, automation technician, instrument technician, foreman, field engineer, site manager, and now as a commissioning engineer.

The four weeks he is at home are spent on various personal projects. Svenøy does "a lot of different things," as he says.

Prefers project work

Throughout his career, Svenøy has worked on various projects, and despite different offers along the way, he enjoys the project world the most.

He is currently in a transition phase between projects and has recently been interviewed for a new assignment. Omega 365 is involved in every step of the hiring process, supporting the consultants all the way. This is one reason Svenøy calls Omega 365 "a fantastic employer."

“Both the follow-up and the compensation are very good,” says Svenøy.

He enjoys his job at Omega 365 and also makes good use of his time off work. In his current project, Svenøy works 14 days on and has 28 days off.

Svenøy values the Advantage program at Omega 365.

“We’ve taken several trips to Gran Canaria, Bulgaria, and cabins in Norway, as well as traveled for teambuildings both domestically and abroad. Additionally, I have been able to use points for relevant job-related courses. It's very nice,” says Svenøy.

The four weeks he is at home are spent on various personal projects. Svenøy does "a lot of different things," as he says. For example, he spends some time with his Alaskan husky. Recently, he has started something entirely new.

“We have started with glamping!” he says enthusiastically.

Svenøy and his brother have bought a glass igloo for comfortable overnight stays right by the seaside at the Hustadvika strait outside Molde. The next step is furnishing, and Svenøy looks forward to setting up and designing the new accommodation, which is a stone’s throw away from the famous Atlantic Road.

Professional problem solver

When he speaks with Omega 365, Svenøy is on a break from his role as a commissioning engineer on the Sleipner A platform. He calls from his car on the way to Oslo, about to enjoy a few days off in Gdansk, where he and his girlfriend will celebrate their birthdays. For Svenøy, it is a milestone as he just turned 60 years old.

For his 60th birthday trip, Svenøy received useful tips at work about what to see in Gdansk. These recommendations came from his manager at Omega 365 Consulting, Liv Hetland.

“Liv is a great manager; I wouldn’t trade her for anyone. Her follow-up is excellent,” says Svenøy.

Hetland also has positive things to say about Svenøy, calling him a reliable consultant who moves from project to project.

“We brought him in based on recommendations from other consultants who said Ronny was someone we should hire,” says Hetland about Svenøy joining Omega 365 in 2008.

Omega 365 needed people for a gas power plant project.

“He was only supposed to be on that assignment for a few months, but the engagement kept getting extended,” says Hetland.

Recently, Svenøy and his brother bought a glass igloo by the seaside at Hustadvika near Molde, Norway.

There are several reasons for this, according to Hetland. In addition to knowing "a bit about everything", Hetland believes Svenøy's social competence is very important. She also highlights Svenøy's good communication with clients, colleagues, and herself, as well as high customer satisfaction as key factors. This has earned Svenøy a strong reputation in the industry, according to his department manager.

“Ronny is a professional problem solver, flexible, and has a good sense of humor. He handles unforeseen issues well, which is important when you work alone a lot,” says Hetland.

“As a person, he gets along with everyone. Ronny has a very positive attitude towards work and is well-liked among colleagues,” Hetland praises.

Hetland also believes the secret lies in Svenøy's attitude towards competence development, as he is very open to acquiring knowledge.

“Ronny is humble and willing to learn. He dives into things, gathers information, and wants to learn things properly. He's not afraid to contact people and ask questions,” says Hetland.

Hetland is happy with the collaboration with Svenøy as they aim to stay ahead in planning the next steps.

“I encouraged him to take an updated safety course using Advantage points. Right after that, an offshore job became available, and Ronny was able to start immediately.”

Svenøy, in turn, praises his colleagues. He enjoys working with them and appreciates that they keep in touch during their free time as well. He believes this is a good sign.

“I get to know new people all the time. It's a great group,” says Svenøy.

“I am incredibly happy with this job, but the project is over soon, and then there will be new challenges.”

Svenøy says afterwards that the interview he attended went very well. He got the job and will start a new assignment for Omega 365 Consulting.
