“Our Technology Department has, in record time, made the biggest technological improvement to our framework, AppFrame, since it was adopted for Pims in 1999. We look forward to launching Appframe 430 for our clients in October.”

Head of Business Support, Sigmund Lunde, is clear in his praise for Peter Øren and his staff in the Technology Department, who have worked intensely to develop Appframe 430. The solution on which Appframe 430 is based was proposed mid-August and implemented in-house just two weeks later. Issues regarding slow networks and processing queues will soon be a thing of the past.

“We have adopted a newer version of Microsoft’s framework, .NET, and in doing so it became possible to improve our own application radically,” says Sigmund Lunde.

Lagging networks and processes underpinned by slow response times have caused frustrations, especially for personnel at our international offices. Where the user previously needed to wait for one process to be completed before the next could begin, he or she can now run several processes simultaneously.

Peter Øren presents an explanation of the processes then and now, asking us to imagine our processes as people, ready to run a 60-meter sprint. In the old version, the first runner would need to cross the finish line before the next person could begin. In the new version, several runners can complete the race at the same time. It goes without saying that the time spent running is dramatically decreased when the runners, or the processes, run parallel.

Global release

The upgrade will probably be most noticeable to employees in Australia, Asia and America, who have previously experienced slow network connections using tools like Pims and MarketMaker. The first reactions to the upgrading of MarketMaker using Appframe 430 are positive from users across the globe.

“Omega's strength lies in our ability to keep our technology and product portfolio updated. When new opportunities present themselves via improved technology from Microsoft, it doesn’t take long before our Technology Department has improved our products too. This is a very welcome update, for internal users, and will be a great improvement for our customers around the world. For some, this is will be like upgrading from a bicycle to a Formula 1 race car,” says Øyvind Vik, President of Omega PS in Houston. Omega Australia’s, Peter Butt agrees that this new step for Appframe looks promising for both employees and clients.

“I have not been able to test much yet, but have already seen a noticeable increase in performance in MarketMaker thanks to the new asynchronous data transfer. “

“This new feature is certainly a welcome addition to AppFrame and I have no doubt that it will increase the usability and marketability of all AppFrame products. I look forward to getting this into Pims Contract Management and seeing the difference in performance in the module,” says the Department Manager.

Available to our clients

It is not only internally that we will notice improvements. Following a trial period, the new version of AppFrame will be made available to our developers in October. Pims clients that have experienced challenges regarding the speed of our tools, when used abroad, will enjoy a greatly-improved experience.

“Our System Engineers will soon have a new selling point when they present Pims and other Omega solutions for existing and new clients. Response time will not be an issue when Statoil, Eni and other clients use Pims in South Korea and at other remote locations,” says a satisfied Peter Øren.
