Site Project Control Technician

Assignment Description

SUMMARY:  The Site Project Control Technician provides project controls support to the Kings Mountain project site.  Capital projects vary by category and stage (as defined by Client Project Process).   This role has technical responsibility for assisting with WBS set-up, cost management, progress measurement, change management, and project reporting & analysis. The Site Project Control Technician will assist the Capital Projects Site Manager with benchmarking and project closeout.  This individual will be located at the manufacturing site and will report directly to the Project Controls Lead.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:  

  • Display and champion the Client Core Values on the project team
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with Site Contractor project controls and management teams
  • Ensure compliance with Project Control Corporate Guidelines and Standards
  • Analyze project cost estimates, schedules, and cost status reports and flag any deviation
  • Review cost estimates, man-hour budgets, and schedules produced by contractors, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Maintain trending and tracking with respect to the stage estimates
  • Assist the project managers in the development and management of Project Controls APP deliverables 
  • Assist the Project Manager in the establishment of the project’s Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) 
  • Site Project Controls will provide estimate assurance support, as needed
  • Convert the project’s approved estimating into a control budget for usage in cost management
  • Work with the Controller – Sustaining Capital Projects for the month end financial process including:
    1. Monthly calculation of Value of Work Done (VOWD) and supporting narratives using Client standard tools and procedures
    2. Monthly calculation of accruals
    3. Coordination and management of monthly forecast into SAP/PPM
    4. Analysis and delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual forecast performance using Albemarle standard tools and procedures inclusive of budgets, actuals, commitments, accruals, trends, variances
  • Coordinate and prepare the cost management input to the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and overall Albemarle budgeting and reporting processes for the entire site portfolio following established Albemarle tools, systems, procedures, and protocols
  • Interface with the Client Finance & Accounting in the creation, management and control of cash flow forecasting, provision of financial perspective on project performance, asset creation, timekeeping, accounting entries and reviews, system data analysis and reporting
  • Development and management of project schedules at the appropriate levels of detail established by Client Project Controls Procedures and Guidelines. 
  • Assist project managers in the validation on Contractor reporting progress measurement and utilization for the project schedule.   
  • Assist the Site Project Managers with collection of portfolio data for benchmarking and continuous improvement in the project delivery process
  • Liaise with outside scheduling and estimating companies hired by Client, as needed
  • Provide guidance, direction, and specialized assistance to project for the resolution of difficult and complex project control problems

Qualifications Required

  • At least 5+ years in capital works project control role
  • The incumbent is to preferably have an engineering or business degree/diploma
  • Good working knowledge of the SAP system in particular the SAP Projects Module
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Power Bi experience is a plus
