ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Risk Manager is responsible for identifying, analyzing, quantifying, and managing risks across all phases of the project. This includes both qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, with a particular focus on early-phase (bid development) uncertainty analyses to support investment decisions. The role ensures that project contingency and reserves are based on structured risk evaluations and that risk management is integrated into planning, cost, and decision-making processes.
The Risk Manager also facilitates risk workshops, challenges contractors on their risk assessments, and supports the project team in maintaining a proactive risk culture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments across all project areas.

• Facilitate structured risk workshops with internal and external stakeholders.

• Perform uncertainty analyses to establish project contingency and reserves.

• Quantify risks using probabilistic methods (e.g., Monte Carlo simulations) and support deterministic planning scenarios (P10, P50, P90).

• Support time risk analysis and cost risk analysis for the project, including determining appropriate confidence levels (e.g., P50 for project control and P80 for investment decisions).

• Identify risk drivers and perform root cause analyses to understand underlying issues.

• Propose and follow up on mitigating actions to reduce risk exposure.

• Maintain and update the project risk register and ensure traceability of mitigation actions.

• Challenge and validate contractor risk assessments and mitigation strategies.

• Ensure alignment between risk, cost, and schedule in collaboration with planning and finance functions.

• Contribute to continuous improvement of risk management practices across the organization.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

• Experience in risk management in large-scale construction or infrastructure projects.

• Strong understanding of both qualitative and quantitative risk methodologies.

• Familiarity with the client (byggherre) role and risk governance in capital projects.

• Skilled in root cause analysis techniques (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa diagrams, fault tree analysis).

• Analytical and structured mindset with strong facilitation and communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, economics, project management, or a related field.

• Certification in risk management (e.g., PMI-RMP, MoR, ISO 31000) is an advantage.

• Experience with risk analysis tools (e.g., @Risk, Primavera Risk Analysis, Safran Risk).
• Fluency in English; proficiency in a Scandinavian language is a plus.
