Indigenous Relations /Stakeholder Advisor
NSB Omega is searching for a Indigenous Relations /Stakeholder Advisor for one of our Client for a Full time role in St. John's NL.
We are seeking qualified individuals for our Indigenous Relations and Engagement Coordinator position. Please note that this is not a fly-in, fly-out position. Preference will be given to Labrador West residents and residents working from our St-Johns office. This position will require candidates to work a Monday- Friday schedule.
Reporting to the General Manager Stakeholder Relations, The Client’s Indigenous Relations and Engagement Coordinator will lead Indigenous community interactions and programming, including maintaining Indigenous to industry relations and business alignments. Detailed role and responsibilities include the following:
Job Responsibilities:
- Development and monitoring of Consultation processes and Impact Benefits Agreements (IBA’s)
- Work with various Indigenous communities to establish and negotiate partnerships through agreements, procurement processes, and recruitment activities.
- Provide regular updates to Indigenous communities as outlined in agreements.
- Visit Indigenous communities and increase collaboration on mutually beneficial priorities.
- Engage with Indigenous groups through consultation on proposals and developments for long-term projects.
- Liaison with government officials as required for the business, i.e. permit approval process in relation to Indigenous commitments.
- Work with Human Resources and other internal stakeholders to understand functional business areas, needs, role requirements and current recruitment practices.
- Build trusted partnerships with Indigenous communities and relevant organizations (e.g., schools, job boards, training institutions, partners, etc.)
- Conduct assessments and promote intercultural understanding to ensure a culturally safe work environment for Indigenous and non-Indigenous employees.
- Develop and deliver cultural awareness training to the business.
- Develop and implement culturally appropriate strategies to recruit, onboard and retain Indigenous talent.
- Coordinate and participate in local cultural events.
- Attend community events including job fairs and general information sessions. Establish scholarships and awards of excellence for Indigenous students
- Identify additional opportunities to increase engagement with Indigenous groups.
- Facilitate and strengthen communication with Indigenous community organizations and services, and attend important meetings bringing together diverse organizations
Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be bilingual, French and English.
- University Degree or Equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 5 years mining industry.
- Minimum 5 years working with Indigenous communities.
