Security and performance as top priorities

Steffen Opheim believes that a reliable document management system is essential at every stage of a project. As the Product Manager for Document Management for the Omega 365 platform at Omega 365, he emphasizes security and performance as key factors.

“The core principles are the same, no matter the industry. Throughout the project, you need to have control of the documentation, from when you start a task until it's completed. You must maintain control all the way through to the operational phase,” says Opheim.

Opheim is driven by the goal of developing effective solutions for clients. He says the best part of his job is launching systems that make a real difference and add value for customers.

“I’ve gone back and forth between product development and customer follow-up over the years. I enjoy both, and the great thing about product development is that you still need to maintain a close relationship with the customers.”

Prioritizing the customer

Opheim believes that understanding customer needs, along with the diverse industries Omega 365 serves, is crucial when developing Document Management systems.

“We need to maintain the core purpose of the product while addressing the needs of all our customers, regardless of industry,” he says.

The purpose of Document Management is to manage and oversee project documentation throughout its lifecycle, from planning to operation. This means keeping track of which documents are produced, ensuring they are distributed correctly, and that the proper processes are followed.

“We focus on three main areas when developing Document Management systems: security, performance, and practical functionality. For me, security is the top priority, customers need to trust that the system is secure and that their documents won’t be lost.”

“Performance is also critical. It quickly becomes frustrating for users if they have to wait for the system to complete tasks”, he adds.

Faster and more robust

Opheim has been with Omega 365 for many years, starting in a summer job in 2014. With a passion for programming, he pursued a bachelor's degree in computer engineering in Stavanger. In 2015, during the oil crisis, he decided to return to Omega 365.

“I enjoy coming to work every day. The environment is great, both professionally and socially.”

Since joining full-time in 2015, Opheim has worked on developing both Pims R4 and, most recently, the Omega 365 platform.

“Omega 365 is built on the principles and lessons learned from Pims R4 and Pims 365, but it is more standardized, offering greater predictability for our customers.”

“Our focus moving forward is to deliver a solid and reliable product to our clients. Customers will have a dedicated Omega team to contact, which enables us to offer fast response times. This shift to a new system has given us a platform that is faster, more robust, and future-proof,” says Opheim.
